Tokiwakai places the younger generation at the heart of its activities — welcoming them not as spectators, but as bearers of Ise's living culture. We are pleased to introduce the framework through which students take part in Tokiwakai: our student-organization affiliation program.

How the program works

Students join Tokiwakai not individually, but through their student organizations. When an organization becomes affiliated with Tokiwakai, its student members can join Tokiwakai free of charge. Please note that we do not accept individual student memberships — students take part through their organizations, so that their involvement can grow into a lasting one, carried together with their peers.

Events require only the participation fee

Students of affiliated organizations can take part in Tokiwakai's events — the Kawabiki (the river-hauling of sacred timber), the monthly Tsuitachi-kai gatherings, and more — by paying only each event's participation fee. There is no annual membership fee.

We ask no membership fee of students because we want the doorway into Ise's culture to stay as wide open as possible for the younger generation. As part of our youth development work, donations to Tokiwakai also help subsidize students' participation fees.

How to take part

If you belong to a student organization that is already affiliated, you can take part through your organization. If you would like to explore affiliation for your own organization — a club, a student association, a seminar group — please reach out via our official LINE. We will gladly explain the program and the activities that lie beyond it.

Tokiwakai is a community based in Ise, dedicated to passing on Japanese traditional culture and nurturing the younger generation. From the monthly Tsuitachi-mairi to the once-in-20-years Kawabiki, we look forward to standing in the midst of Ise's living culture together with students.
